Husky nozzles offer improved accessibility, control, and fueling precision as standard features

Fueling equipment should work for everyone—consistently, safely and comfortably. That’s the thinking behind the latest update to Husky Corporation’s industry-leading fuel nozzles, which will now include the innovative EZ Lever as a standard feature.

For decades, Husky nozzles have been known for quality, durability and performance at fuel stations around the world. The company’s latest enhancement reflects its continued investment in engineering solutions that improve the user experience without adding cost or complexity.

“Fueling products must deliver performance and reliability every time,” said G.G. Sutcliffe, president of Husky Corporation. “Our nozzle design reflects decades of engineering and customer input. We’re proud that every nozzle we ship continues that legacy.”

EZ Lever Enhances Performance, Reduces Spill Risk, and Supports ADA Compliance

The newly standard EZ Lever is a two-piece design that dramatically reduces the amount of force required to operate the nozzle—less than five pounds compared to the typical 10 to 15 pounds. This improvement meets Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and provides smoother control during fueling. See how it works in this brief video.

“EZ Lever adds value to every fueling transaction, especially for customers who need greater control or have physical limitations,” said Brad Baker, executive vice president of Husky Corporation. “We’ve worked with our longtime U.S. suppliers to offer this improvement with no additional cost.”

In addition to making fueling more accessible, EZ Lever improves precision—especially when topping off a vehicle or filling fuel containers. The enhanced control helps reduce splash back and minimize spills, improving safety for customers and station operators alike.

The nozzle’s performance remains consistent with Husky’s established flow rates and certifications, including those required by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). Distributors and customers will continue using the same part numbers, ensuring a seamless transition as EZ Lever-equipped nozzles begin shipping in late 2024.

Fueling can be a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating process, especially for large commercial vehicles and equipment that require high-flow rates to keep up with busy schedules. That’s why Husky Corporation is excited to introduce the latest version of our StreamShaper, a technology upgrade specifically designed for vehicles refueling at 25 gallons per minute or more.

The Next Evolution in Fueling Technology

Originally developed to address splash-back spills and premature shutoffs in conventional nozzles, the StreamShaper for ultra high-flow applications enhances the fueling experience for heavy-duty commercial vehicles, construction equipment, agricultural tractors, and recreational vehicles. For these types of vehicles, a clear, uninterrupted fuel flow can make a major difference. And in high demand fueling environments, avoiding delays due to early nozzle shutoffs or messy splash-backs isn’t just about convenience; it’s about keeping operations running smoothly. Here’s a brief video that shows these benefits in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjqfDkYKEzk.

The StreamShaper applies the principles of laminar flow, where fuel flows in a tight, concentric pattern through the nozzle without cross currents, eddies, or pressure drops. This smooth flow prevents the turbulence that typically causes splash-backs and premature shutoffs, allowing drivers to fill up faster and get back on the road.

Solving Common Fueling Challenges

Vehicles that rely on high flow fueling often have convoluted, bendy fuel pipes due to design requirements or space constraints. The new StreamShaper keeps the fuel flow parallel to the nozzle walls, reducing the chance of spills and ensuring complete fills even with challenging tank designs.

Another common challenge for heavy-duty vehicles like over-the-road trucks is the foam produced during diesel refueling. Foaming can trick the nozzle into shutting off early, resulting in a tank that isn’t full. The streamlined flow of the StreamShaper minimizes foam buildup and helps ensure a proper fill every time.

Delivering a Better Fueling Experience

Whether you’re operating a large fleet, agricultural machinery, or even a recreational vehicle, every second saved at the fuel pump matters. The new StreamShaper for ultra-high-flow applications was designed to help make the refueling process smoother and more efficient for everyone.

Throughout time, women have made significant contributions to society and have shaped important events in American history. On this International Women’s Day, while we celebrate the progress women have made in the workforce, we also want to highlight our own trailblazing woman who paved the way for future generations, Husky’s co-founder, Hazel Sutcliffe.

Hazel Sutcliffe: Trailblazer for Husky Corporation

In 1947, Hazel and her husband, Eugene (E.G.), began the Sutcliffe Specialty Company when they invented and manufactured the first gas-nozzle guard in their home. E.G. held sales meetings at the kitchen table while Hazel served as the company’s accountant.

Hazel, a talented artist, also handled all company related advertising, including painting Husky’s first logo, which still hangs in Husky’s headquarters today. In addition to starting and managing a business, Hazel raised four children, two of whom also eventually would work in the business.

While selling their simple rubber strap “guard” from station to station (with a Samoyed in the passenger seat), E.G. began picking up nozzles and bringing them home to rebuild and sell. As business expanded, the name of their company was changed to Husky Corporation.

Innovation and Patents Since 1947

Hazel’s contributions to the industry were numerous and significant. She personally held several patents, including a patent for the first one-hand hold-open latch, which is still widely used today. Hazel and E.G. later decided to sell this patent, and used the proceeds to develop their own, uniquely designed nozzle, the Husky 1+.

75 years later, from Hazel’s kitchen table, Husky has grown into a state-of-the-art designer and manufacturer of fuel dispensing equipment with a worldwide distribution network. Hazel’s accomplishments are a testament to the power of determination, perseverance, and hard work, and also grace, good humor, and faith. Her legacy serves as a testament to the great things women are capable of achieving.

So, on this International Women’s Day, let us celebrate the incredible achievements of Hazel Sutcliffe and all the women who have worked tirelessly to make a difference in their industries and communities.

When 3G (third generation) cellular networks arrived on the scene, communication and internet usage would never be the same. For those who remember dial-up telephone modems as revolutionary when they arrived, 3G was the faster/better/safer innovation that made smartphones and remote communications possible. Now, two decades later, 3G is going the way of the rotary phone, as carriers need all the bandwidth they can muster for 4G and even more advanced 5G networks.

All major U.S. wireless carriers will pull the plug on their 3G networks in 2022, but not at the same time:

  • AT&T plans to shut down 3G networks in February.
  • T-Mobile plans to shut down Sprint 3G networks March 31.
  • T-Mobile’s own 3G networks will close by July 1.
  • Verizon said it will end 3G December 31.

Enevo Sensors Affected by 3G Sunset Need to be Replaced

The impact will be felt by devices that solely use 3G networks. One example is wireless liquid level monitoring systems, with sensors that accurately measure and transmit storage tank volumes in real-time over cellular networks. Enevo Logistics Optimization is an industry leader. Since the Enevo WE-008L tank sensors operate on the 3G cellular networks provided by T-Mobile and AT&T all current sensors in service will no longer be able to communicate to Enevo dashboards when these networks are turned off. Here is a summary of what that means for Enevo customers:

  • New sensors and network service contracts will be necessary for customers to continue with the Enevo solution after the 3G sunset
  • New WE-009L sensors will operate on LTE Cat-M1/NB-IoT Network
  • Two pricing models are being offered with new sensor hardware (WE-009L)
    • 100% subscription option – $12.99/month. Minimum contract length 36 months
    • Purchase/subscription option – $210.00 for sensor & $8.50/month. Minimum contract length 36 months
  • The WE-009L sensors should be available in February 2022

Enevo Mitigates Financial Impact of 3G’s Demise

Because the Enevo pricing models are subscription-based, not capital intensive, the budgetary impact will be mitigated.

“Our most popular program is where you pay a single monthly charge, which includes the use of the sensor. So, there’s no real hard out of pocket cost,” said Joe Laschke Husky Corporation’s National Sales Manager for Enevo. “Some competitors make customers buy their hardware up front. So, they must open their wallets for equipment and then pay a monthly fee on top of that. The Enevo service is already superior and is also financially compelling.”

There may be a bit of breathing room for those needing to order and activate new sensors. The Enevo system automatically chooses the strongest signal. So, if AT&T sunsets first in an area where that is the customer’s strongest network, the Enevo system would automatically switch over to the T-Mobile network.

Simple Installation and Activation for New Enevo WE-009L Sensors

The new sensors will have the same look and easy-to-use functionality. Enevo utilizes an app which installers put on their mobile phone or tablet to make replacing the old sensor – as easy as possible. This app is designed to read the QR codes on both the new and the old sensors to facilitate the change.

Enevo utilizes an app which installers put on their mobile phone or tablet to make replacing the old sensor - as easy as possible.

“The installer will take their phone, hold it up to the old sensor QR code, then hold it to the to the new sensor QR code. And the swap out will be that simple,” Laschke said. “So, they don’t have to make a phone call and talk to technical support. All the original tank and customer data resides on the Enevo cloud dashboard.”

The Enevo customer support team will always be happy to assist with any questions or issues that may arise at 800-325-3558 or by email at sales@husky.com Reach out today to get your new Enevo sensors, which will keep all the advantages of remote liquid level monitoring going for years to come.

Weather can wreak havoc on fueling stations. Thunderstorms, tropical storms, and hurricanes that cause flooding are real problems for petroleum dispensing facilities. If your operation has been affected by high water, Husky Corporation reminds you that proper inspection of hanging hardware is important to ensure everyone’s safety before returning to operation.

Fuel dispensing equipment that has been submerged during storms can become damaged. After the water recedes, it is important to thoroughly inspect the equipment to make sure it will operate safely. Any fueling site where equipment has been partially or entirely underwater should conduct thorough inspections.

Key guidelines to use during the hanging hardware inspection process

  • Hoses (whip and curb) should be cleaned and inspected. Replace the hose if there is corrosion on the fittings. Replace the hose if there are cracks, delamination, kinks, tears, or punctures.
  • Breakaways and swivel/Safe-T-Break combos should be cleaned and inspected. Replace the breakaway if there is corrosion around where the male end is inserted into the sleeve. Mag-Breaks® should be separated and inspected for any corrosion or debris and then reconnected.
  • Swivels should be cleaned and inspected. Replace the swivel if there is corrosion in or around any of the joints. Replace the swivel if it doesn’t rotate freely or if the rotation feels gritty.
  • Nozzles should be replaced if they have been partially or completely submerged. Any nozzles that have not been underwater should be cleaned and inspected. If there is debris or damage inside the spout or vent tube opening, the nozzle should be replaced.
  • When checking the equipment by flowing fuel, if it is apparent there has been water inside the hose or nozzle, replace all the hanging hardware.

For any equipment that remains in service, it is recommended to re-evaluate the equipment every month to inspect for any flood-related damage or corrosion that may have grown over time.

Please contact your Husky distributor if replacement equipment is needed. If you have questions or concerns about your equipment, please contact Husky’s Technical Service Engineer Paul Nilsen at (636) 825-7213 or pnilsen@husky.com. Husky Customer Service is also available for any questions you may have at (800)325-3558.

It’s one thing for an organization to say it is committed to quality. It’s another thing to prove it with ISO certification. So, when customers, suppliers, and competitors see the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) seal, they know that company has independently verified its commitment to excellence.

Husky Corporation was recently re-certified under ISO 9001: 2015, the international standard for Quality Management Systems. That has been the case since 1995 for a company that produces American-made fuel nozzles, Safe-T-Breaks®, swivels and accessories that customers all over the globe expect to work flawlessly each time they fuel their vehicles.

And for the first time, Husky’s certification includes the company’s vehicle fluid line repair division S.U.R.&R., which offers specialty tools along with solutions for brake, fuel, air conditioning, coolant, transmission, and power steering lines.

In 2016 Husky acquired S.U.R.&R., retaining sales, purchasing, and customer service operations in Akron, Ohio with manufacturing and assembly operations taking place at facilities in Pacific, Missouri. When the three-year ISO 9001: 2015 recertification came due again in 2021, Husky management wanted to include S.U.R.&R as part of its scope of operations.

ISO Certification for S.U.R.&R.

S.U.R.&R. started by meticulously documenting its processes. Many of the processes existed for years, including electronic data interchange (EDI) which provides for the secure exchange of customer order information, but had not been written down and vetted against established standards.

“It took me months to create work instructions for the S.U.R.&R Customer Service Representative position, documenting every single aspect of how we deal with our customers,” said Josh Lombardi, S.U.R.&R. Customer Service Representative. “It was absolutely worthwhile. We created a living document, so that when new and better ideas come up, we can add those improvements to our processes.”

Then Husky’s internal auditor reviewed the S.U.R.&R. processes. Internal audits are required as part of ISO certification, which look for evidence that goals are being established and met as well as work instructions are being followed according to benchmark standards.

“I remotely conducted an internal audit of the Akron facility, looking for improvement opportunities and/or any gaps in conformance to the ISO: 9001 2015 standard while making sure they were effectively performing against Husky’s policies and objectives as well. The standard provides tools and guidelines to consistently meet customer requirements and continue to improve, although it is up to us as a team to reach our goals,” said Greg Keys, Husky Corporation internal auditor. “We did a second audit for customer service and purchasing processes. We identified a few improvement opportunities; just some updates needed to be done to the system.”

That paved the way for a required external audit of all Husky processes, including those involving S.U.R.&R. This is the final step prior to ISO certification, and follows a successful internal audit and at least two months of documentation that the processes are meeting standards. The external audit was conducted by DQS Inc., an accredited third-party audit firm, with certification granted April 2021.

“The certification will definitely be beneficial for S.U.R.&R. long term. It gives an assurance to our customers that everything goes through a proper and documented procedure from the time  of order to their door, said Matt Miller, S.U.R.&R. purchasing representative.

Benefits of Certified Quality Management Systems

ISO : 9000 2015 certification tells customers and suppliers alike that a company is committed to continuous improvement. That commitment is demonstrated over time. Even though ISO recertification occurs every three years, external surveillance audits of all processes are required each year. Husky takes that requirement a step further and calls for external audits every six months.

“It definitely says this team is driven by quality. They really want to see a quality product go out that door and not come back,” said Steve Baynham, Husky Corporation Quality Assurance Manager. “The certification helps S.U.R.&R. in the extremely competitive automotive aftermarket. It also differentiates us from companies that don’t have a registered quality management system.”

Companies that stand the test of time frequently point to quality as a characteristic of their success. Husky Corporation, which since 1947 has set the standard for developing general fueling and related products in the transportation sector, places quality as one of its key pillars. The quality policies, document control systems and methods to monitor key metrics help Husky develop processes for continuous improvement that will continue to drive the company in the years to come.
